Program of our boating tour
FIRST DAY
Jacques and Sophie welcome you on board from 2 p.m.. On this first afternoon you settle down on the barge. You can have a rest, discover the city or do some shopping for your meals on board or reserve a table in a restaurant for dinner.
SECOND DAY
After your waking up Sophie serves you a copious breakfast. In the meantime, Jacques starts the engine, uses the horn and let’s go upstream and downstream.
You admire how the locks work and be astonished by the extraordinary feats of human and technical endeavours that went into the making of the canal.
From Montceau les Mines to Ecuisses (stop in the evening), you find the watershed between the valleys of the French rivers, the Loire, and the Rhone.
At Ecuisses, you visit the Canal Museum .
At dinner you savour French gastronomy in a typical restaurant (included in OUTINGS and GOURMET formulas).
THIRD DAY
While the barge sails majestically, all along the canal, you admire the typical flora - flowers, hedges, meadows where the Charolese cows graze, the fauna and especially the herons staring at you while fishing in the wake of the boat.
In the evening you discover the village of Saint Léger sur Dheune , its shops, its restaurants and its jam factory “Au Péché Sucré”. In the village of Couches you may visit the Castle of Marguerite of Burgundy and dine in la Tour Bajole.
FOURTH DAY
After a few hours of navigation in the morning, the barge stops near Santenay, famous for its 380 hectares of vineyards, the Castle of Philip the Bold and its mills. Thus you can relax and visit this pretty village in the afternoon. Later on, you could spend an evening in the casino or in one of the restaurants: L’Ouillette and “Le Terroir”.
FIFTH DAY
After nice voyage through the Burgundian countryside and in the middle of the vines the barge stops off at Chagny .
In the afternoon you visit a vineyard, you taste Burgundian vintages at Rully then you dine in a renowned restaurant ( with the stamp of quality “Logis de France” and 2 stars ). ( OUTINGS AND GOURMET ).
And why not, you could familiarize you with the manoeuvres and steer the barge for a while.
If you are interested in the engine or any technical equipment, go down into the engine room for a few moments : the captain will be pleased to explain how it operates.
SIXTH DAY
On the last stage we lead you to Fragnes, for the evening stop. Just beside this pretty port, you go to the baker’s and you taste “very new cooking” in the restaurant called la Fleur de Sel.
SEVENTH DAY
This is already the day when you leave. After breakfast, a last glance to the canal, more photographs of the AU FIL DE L’EAU barge, the traditional group photo on the deck with Jacques and Sophie and you leave the world of waterways.
But maybe ...
you will come back.
